New From Buxom: Samantha's Smoky Eye

Buxom is one of my favorite lines this year. The Stay There shadows will definitely make my must-have list at the end of the year. Buxom (and BE) have a ton of great goodies coming out for the holiday. I've gotten my hands on a few of them and will share all of the details!

The first collection of new goods I have been able to play with is Samantha's Smoky Eye. This kit, which is a Sephora exclusive, contains four items:

Big & Healthy Lip Polish in Samantha
Smoky Eye Stick in Smokin' Pistol
    Buxom Smoky Eye Brush
Buxom Lash Mascara in Blackest Black

At first glance, this kit doesn't appear to be that different from many of the other kits. However, this kit deserves a second look. Let's start with the brush.

This Buxom brush is perfect for creating a host of looks. Obviously, it's a great choice for the look this kit inspires. Its thick, yet tapered brush is great for making a heavy line, close to the lashes. The fact that the bristles are short give the brush the muscle needed to smoke out the Eye Stick. It also works really well as a detailed crease brush. (I love the Buxom Stay There brush as well. If you don't have that and wear a lot of cream shadows, check it out.)

Next up, the Samantha Buxom Lip Polish. This shade is a beautiful, creamy nude. It is slightly more opaque than I had expected, and at first it seemed like it would be close to clear.

But it isn't. Instead, it is a creamy pink, diluted to have more shine than color. This color is slightly different from some of the other Buxom colors. It doesn't have a lot of sparkle and it isn't full color.

It reminds me of a nude lip, à la Sophia Loren of the late 1950s.

The real reason to pick up this set is the Smoky Eye Stick. This is different from their previous eyeliners for several reasons. First, it is thick. Like quarter of an inch thick. Second, it is a rich, thick black that isn't the usual liner-like texture. Think super-kohl. This is very black, slightly tacky, and very smudge-able. You'll need a good makeup remover to get this off. Since it's from Buxom, it also has a built-in sharpener, which makes keeping a fine tip on the thick liner easy. I found the best way to use this is to line gently and then smudge it out with the brush. Or, lightly use the brush to get pigment from the stick and apply with the brush.

Finally, you also get a Buxom Mascara in Blackest Black. I like to prep lashes with the Flawless Definition and then use Buxom on top to really make lashes stand out.

I created one of my favorite looks ever with this kit to show you how it looks. I wanted to do a slight twist on the Sophia Loren cat eye, so I am adding a pop of color to the vintage look. To start, I filled in my brow with BE's Auburn brow powder. Then I used Stay-There in Poodle as a base color (over the BE Eye Primer). Next, I used Chameleon from the middle of my lid to the crease and on the outer V. Then I lightly drew a medium thick line from slightly outside of the outer corner of my eye, to the middle of my eye. I then used the brush to coax the Smokey Eye Stick into a classic cat. I finished up with Buxom Lash. (Which gave me incredible length I wasn't expecting!) Here are the results.

What do you think? Having worn this to work, I can tell you that it didn't budge at all in more than 10 hours. Are you going to add this to your must-have list or wait and see what else is around the corner? Once I get the hang of working with the Eye Stick, I am sure I am going to need more colors!
