New Year's resolutions are in full swing, so this year, why not make one you can actually keep? Make a vow that for special occasions, you won't let the racing tick tock of the clock get in the way of a gorgeous hair style. Even if you only have five minutes to spare, you can achieve a party-perfect look with just a few simple steps. According to one of the most sought-after celebrity hair stylists, David Babaii, the secret lies in keeping your locks looking “natural messy” instead of stiff and structured.
Babaii, who has styled the world’s top actresses including Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Uma Thurman, Jessica Alba and Sarah Jessica Parker, just to name a few, believes everyone can get a red-carpet-worthy mane by using the right styling products for their hair type. Recently, the 34-year-old hairstylist has teamed up with actress Kate Hudson to create a new collection of professional hair care products called David Babaii for Wildaid, where a portion of proceeds support reversing the devastation of the planet’s wildlife. Babaii suggests using the right combination of these products can help achieve the perfect “natural messy” party hair style.
“If you hair is curly or wavy, my Bohemian Beach Spray will add just the right amount of texture and curl,” said Babaii. “For added lift and volume, Volcanic Ash Root Amplifier will do the trick on all types of hair. For straight hair, use Hair Polish to add that boost of shine that will allow the festive lights to bounce off your glistening hair.”
So how do you get a natural messy look with only a few minutes before your festivities? Babaii says it’s as simple as having half of your hair up and the rest down, or all of it in a messy pony tail with some small rhinestone pins added for a touch of glitz. For best results, Babaii says to prep your hair by wearing it in a messy ponytail created by twisting and twirling the hair, followed by a spritz of Bohemian Beach Spray.
“When you are ready to go out you have two style options,” said Babaii. “For the half up and down, undo the ponytail and gently finger comb the waves and spray some Volcanic Ash Root Lift for volume and lift. Pick up the sides and secure with decorative pins. For the up-do, simply loosen some strands from the ponytail and apply some Hair Polish to smooth them while twisting them in different shapes. Secure them with rhinestone pins.”
