Aromaleigh's Victoria's Revenge: My Tarnished, Private Freakshow

Despite the fact that I have a schmillion other products to get to, I can't stop experimenting with the new Aromaleigh collection, Victoria's Revenge. If you don't already know, it is a collection of 25 new colors, inspired by John Galliano and all things Steampunk. You have to check it out - I can't stop obsessing over what colors I can't live without. I know I love purples, grays and blues. But I don't wear a lot of greens and decided to give these a shot.


For this look, I used:
Airy Ethos in the inner corner to the middle
Private Lunacy in the middle to outer eyelid
Freakshow in the crease
Tarnished Strychnine as a liner, dry







Greens are definitely not the first color I gravitate to, but I rather like this. What do you think? What colors are on your must have list?

Aromaleigh Victoria's Revenge Eye Shadow Collection

Aromaleigh just launched their first new eye shadow collection since last year. It's a 25-shade collection called Victoria's Revenge, inspired by John Galliano's Spring 2010 Collection, Emilie Autumn's steampunk girlie asylum girl Victoriana stage set and show and a stunning spread in Numero Magazine.

The colors all have names like Ruthless Indulgence, Skeleton Key, Phantasm, Freakshow and Cyanide Sorrow. The colors, for the most part, glitter in their darkness and evoke all things steampunk. These colors are seriously complex and are one of the most intense, fashion-inspired collections to come out of a house of makeup, let alone indie mineral makeup. I fell in love with the first two colors I picked up - Poison Utopia and Gaslight Tears. Poison Utopia is a deep, dark purple that glitters intensely with shards of lavender and fuchsia. Gaslight Tears is a lighter purplish gray that also teems with sparkle.

Here is a quick look I did using Poison Utopia, Gaslight Tears, Mania's Locus and Ruthless Indulgence. Gaslight Tears is in the inner corner, Mania's Locus is on the outer corner, Ruthless Indulgence is blended slightly into the corner and Poison Utopia is used as a liner (wet) along the top row of lashes. While these colors are strong on their own, for this look I blended them out to be slightly more sheer.


I also used Ruthless Indulgence on the tips of my lashes to add a little sparkle and thickness. I first applied a mascara with a long dry down time (I used Mally's Volumizing Mascara) and then touched my lashes to a flat brush. The lashes still looked dark, but when the light hit them in a special way, they glinted with deep purple. Because the mascara was wet when I applied the shadow, I had no problem with fallout.


I love this collection and will try to swatch the colors for you as soon as possible. It should be available on Aromaleigh's website any second and should be scooped up before you can say Oscar Wilde.

Easing Into Color with Aromaleigh

How about a look that’s gorgeous and glam, but still fairly “safe?” It’s super easy to get stuck in a neutral-brown rut, and many people are afraid of using color for their eye shadows, so why not ease into using two different color tones with a “vintage rose moss” look?

We recently had the pleasure of testing out some Aromaleigh mineral eye shadows, which yield a high color impact, yet ultimate blendability and staying power (with great prices to boot, since you can get generous samples for only $1, and full size shadows are $8!). With an incredible spectrum of colors to choose from, we picked these natural, mineral shades to create a soft, romantic look using hues of lavender, rose and moss:

• 
• AMARANTE – A warm, olive green with vivid blue shimmer

• LISETTE – Romantic orchid violet with gold shimmer

• JOLIE - Rich burgundy wine with bright violet shimmer

• Calliope – A shimmering beige with subtle lilac tones

• Littleflower – A heathery rose pink with a gray undertone (***NOTE: This shade retired on 2/6/10***)

So how do you recreate this look yourself?



Begin by dusting Lisette from the inside corner of your lid all the way to the outer corner. Then, rev up the color by dabbing a more concentrated amount of Jolie on the outer half of the lid. Next, give your eyes depth with a dash of understated green by introducing Amarante. Using the tip of an angled shadow brush, create a sideways “V.” Start by extending the shadow up from the outer corner of your eye upwards to a 45 degree angle, then change direction and go back toward the inside of your lid, following the crease of your eye. Finally, highlight your brow bone using Calliope, and brighten up the inside corner of your lid with Littleflower (or a similar light rose color).

To really make this look “pop” a little more (great for night!), we lined the upper lid with a black gel liner (Mac Fluidline works wonders) and added some Maybelline Volum’ Express waterproof mascara. If you want to downplay it for day, skip the gel liner and dab on Amarante toward the lash line as the “liner.”

Voila. Color without going crazy. Good luck, and let us know what you think!

FOTD: Aromaleigh & Three Custom Color Specialists

I never do FOTD's (Face of the Day) photos because my artist skills on myself aren't all that wonderful and because I don't take great photos. However, this morning, I tried out some new colors that I normally wouldn't put together and really liked them. What do you think?

On my eyes, I used two colors from Aromaleigh's Retro Hi-Fi Matte collection, In the Mix and Cat's Pajamas. In the Mix is a matte light purple and Cat's Pajamas is an orange-y red.

I lined with an indelible gel liner in the shade Magnetism, which is a blend of black and gold. When they say indelible, this stuff is almost like a tattoo. It doesn't move.

On my cheeks, I used a gorgeous cream blush by Three Custom Color Specialists called Simply Beautiful. It looks very bright in the container, but goes on incredibly sheer and gives you build-able color. After I had layered and blended until I was content, I totally see where it gets its name and adds a beautiful flush to my skin.

The color on my lips is also from Three Custom Color Specialists. It's a very light pink gloss called Faerie Floss which is a very light pink/purple/clear/magical color. It's one of those colors I am convinced famous people wear when magazines say they are only wearing chapstick, yet they manage to look amazing.
