New Summer Colors from TEMPTU

I love my TEMPTU Airbrush. My only complaint is that they don't have enough colors for blush. Recently, they launched two new color combos; Summer Glow and Summer Glam. Summer Glam is an orangey blush and highlighter.

Summer Glow is more of a ruby-based blush and highlighter. Previous TEMPTU blushes haven't packed a punch when it comes to color. These seem to be much brighter than the ones that came before. What do you think?

Finding the Perfect Peach: Peach Blush Super Swatch-tacular

For months, I have been all over any blush that wasn't pink, purple or brown. I have a lot of pink in my skin, and while I am drawn to pink blush, it has been hinted at - by much more makeup-savvy people than I - that pink blush on my easily flushed skin is similar to a disaster.

So my quest began. Then one evening, while strolling in Walgreens (yes, I stroll in Walgreens) Loxy said, "I know it has a NEW! sticker on it, but I think you have that color." Granted, I have a lot of makeup. Believe it or not, I think I had more a few years ago, way before I started writing about it. But if Loxy was telling me I already had a particular color and he understood that this color was a light peach, with a slight shimmer with cool undertones and no glitter in a cream base, it was starting to sink in that maybe I had gone to far.

So here, for your perusal, are swatches of most of my peach blushes, in the hopes that you can find what may be your perfect peach blush. And maybe it will inspire you to try something new OR remind you to walk away from the makeup counter if you truly already have that color.







I believe I have the peach cheek market covered. There is one more color I am dying to try, but it isn't available at my Sephora yet. I will be sure to let you know when I pick it up. In the meantime, I promise to walk away from the peach blush. Unless I don't have anything like it.

Santa Lox Was Listening: TEMPTU Foundation

Having a blog is fun. I get to meet fun people and do things I may not always get to do. Turns out, it is a great tool for dropping holiday hints to my husband. And unless he had to wear a helmet as a child*, there was no way he could have missed the fact that I wanted a TEMPTU airbrush for the holidays. Especially since my banter about it bordered on obsessive.

I was craving airbrushed foundation and it is going to be a BIG TREND this year. Those two facts smushed together mean I NEED an airbrush. Which is where the whole having a blog-your-husband-reads-thing comes in handy during the holidays.

I was thrilled to unwrap the TEMPTU airbrush for Christmas. TEMPTU certainly isn't the only airbrush on the market. But it is the only really accessible airbrush I have seen. It's accessible because it is sold through Sephora, which in many towns is second only to Starbucks. They have a ton of foundation choices, a few blushes, bronzers and highlighters to choose from. Plus it claims to give you a flawless face and I need that.

While on a TV shoot recently, I stopped into the 5th Ave Sephora and was lucky enough to chat with the TEMPTU rep. She color matched me and told me that she was hopeful more colors and other products would be released in 2010. That makes me happy because it is really my only complaint with TEMPTU; four blushes do not a blush palette make for me. However, I do love the soft peach blush. It's gorgeous. And when coupled (tripled?) with the champagne highlighter and bronzer, I am able to almost sculpt some nice cheekbones. I think this is where practice will eventually make perfect.




I love the foundation. It's not matte, it's not dewy, it's somewhere in-between. I prefer a light to medium amount of coverage and like how it looks. It takes me about 1 minute to put on the foundation and another two minutes to do the blush. It would take less if the design of the pods wasn't so rounded and slippery. While I don't look flawless, I think I could look flawless if was willing to go a little heavier on the coverage. But I also like my skin to show through a bit, so I guess I am left to compromise.




While the overall price of the unit may deter some users, I am having a hard time using the other products I need to test because I am having so much fun playing with the airbrush. My only complaint (besides lack of blush colors)? The foundation has an extended dry down time. I often find myself stippling my foundation with a liquid foundation brush to makes sure my inexperienced airbrush hand covered everything evenly and to help speed the dry down. All in all, I LOVE this. Thanks Loxy!

*Mr. Lox did wear a helmet as a child. I am not trying to be disparaging to people who did wear helmets as children (my co-worker did as well and you know I love you.). I really just wanted to work in that he wore a helmet. He is proud of this fact and often asks why I haven't figured out a way to incorporate this into a blog post. Ta Da, Loxy! In reality, he has a eye tumor and getting hit in the head with a ball was a constant fear of his Mom. Lucky for both of them, he was terrible at sports** and balls being thrown at him was unlikely since he didn't play sports. However, that fact was not considered when his helmet wearing was determined. To be continued....

2009 Favorite Things Countdown #10

As the year comes to an end, I thought it would be fun to look back at some of my favorite products and my favorite adventures from this year. So starting today, here are my 10 favorite products, as well as my favorite experiences from 2010.

I can't be happy (or pleasant to be around) if my lips are dry, let alone chapped. Here's my favorite lip balm from this year.

If you haven't noticed, one of my favorite things to do is to get or give makeovers. They make me feel giddy like a little kid, with all of the possibilities that are, well possible, with a makeover. After the review is one of my favorite makeovers from the year.


Favorite Thing #10: Fresh Sugar Rosé Lip Balm

I know I am starting to sound like a broken record. I have dry skin. The weather changes and it hurts. Blah blah blah. I know that everyone doesn't have the same dry skin issues I do. But for my dry skin sisters out there, here is my latest find.



I first tried Fresh's Sugar Lip Treatment last winter and fell in love. It's so soft, nourishing and soothing, it became a staple in purse and on my night stand. Recently, Fresh launched the same Sugar lip treatment in a Rosé tinted formula.



This formula has the same SPF 15 to protect your lips, sugar to keep your lips moisturized, and Meadowfoam and Apricot seed oil that are rich in hydrating fatty acids and vitamin E. It still has antioxidants and Vitamins A and C to help protect from free radicals. This new formula is enhanced with a bright berry hue to give a natural flush to your lips.

I admit, when I first saw this color, I was crestfallen. It looked too bright to be my new go-to product. But when I put it on, I fell in love. It isn't anywhere near as bright as it appears, but is nicely pigmented to give your pout a slight blush. For $22.50, this product is definitely on the expensive side for lip balm. However, you will love how soft your lips feel, especially if you are truly one of my brethren suffering from winter weathered dry skin.

Times Square Reader Makeover

Last week I was in NYC shooting a commercial. Robin, one of my loyal readers, realized I was nearby and asked for a makeover. How could the retired makeup artist in me refuse? I couldn't! The event? While I would love to say it was for the 15th anniversary of her bat mitzvah (it was!), she was really meeting her new beau in Times Square to watch the World Series on the jumbo trons. She wanted flawless skin and to make her baby blue eyes pop.

As I have mentioned, I spend way too much time in Sephora, and have no problem making myself at home. The first stop? The TEMPTU air brushing station. I sat Robin down, picked the lightest color they make, Porcelain, and began spraying away. After explaining to a customer service assistant that I didn't need help and promised not to break it (or air brush anyone else, despite their queries) Robin had really amazingly flawless skin.

Next, I showed Robin the new lip gloss I am obsessed with, Illamasqua Sheer Gloss in Tantrum, a deep violet sheen. This color made her eyes pop and became the muse for her whole look.

We went with bright LORAC eyeshadow; Delight all over the eyelid and Celebutante as a thick, but sheer cat eye liner. Next came a lash-hugging application of Front of the Line by LORAC in black to give her already long lashes a boost. I also gave her eyebrows definition with all my time favorite Auburn Essential Brow Powder, by Bare Escentuals. We finished off her eyes with Bare Escentuals Buxom Mascara, which gave her long lashes some extra oomph in the thickness department.

Robin has a natural pink flush. While camouflaged by the TEMPTU foundation, I didn't want it to show through. Since her eyes were already screaming candy, we went with a slightly more subdued peachy-pink in Coralista by Benefit. Just a tiny bit of color topped off with Flawless Radiance by Bare Escentuals and she looked amazing!



Afterwards, we headed out into the masses to take one last picture and find her friends. Thanks Robin!
