My Dream Hair is on Emma Stone's Head

I want this hair. Really, really badly. I know I need another eight inches of length. Fine, I'll wait and practice on the hair I do have. My bangs are sort of there now (but her's are gloriously better looking). I need crazy shine. And I need to know how to style it. I think this is my new goal. This is what I am going to put my efforts towards and will only be thinking of achieving this one thing from now on, until my goal has been met. Loxy, be prepared for all that entails. I'm sorry in advance for any annoyance or discomfort my new obsession will cause you.

So how do I get it? Pros, I'm talking to you. How do I take my usually straight and sometimes wavy hair and make it do that? I essentially have never had hair this long and am like a hair baby. I need details. And not press release or glossy blog details. I am certain you put a serum in it before blow drying and touching up with a curling iron- blahblahblah. I can guess that much already. I need the gritty details. Like step by step, with awkward pictures and a product list with links.

OK, go.  Can someone teach this hair baby how to do this on her own head?

Hey Hon! Here's Some Local Love - Balance The Salon

I am not a loyal hair salon customer . First of all, my hair cut (no matter how small the difference) and color change every two or three weeks. I am not loyal to any stylist - not because I don't like them, but because I change my mind so often (ie. need appointments all of the time), I get to know a lot of them. It is really common for me to go to someone religiously every 4 weeks for 6 months and then disappear for a year or more. Usually, I run because:

1: They are actually booked and can't see me right away.
2: They stop trying because we're pals.
3: I'm out of town and try somewhere new.

Hair Ho-ness aside, I do have some favorites. Currently, my fave for cuts (she's never done my color, but it would be great, I am sure) is Bethany at Balance the Salon, located at 409 West Cold Spring Lane in Baltimore. I first found Bethany when I asked several people who cut their hair and they all gave the same answer. Bethany always does an amazing job with my short, funky hair and is kind enough to give me color ideas, even though she knows I will do it myself at home. She is also perfectly happy to remind me I am not actually P!nk and I will not look right certain current trends. I appreciate this because sometimes you need someone to be a little honest. She is also amazing at just making your hair look it's best, long or short, funky or sleek - whatever you are looking for, she has an idea of how to make it work for you. And sometimes, just when I think it is time to retire my current favorite look, Bethany tweaks it to become fresh and inspired all over again.

The Salon itself is nice and simple, with a comfy, stylish vibe. The cuts are priced nicely (mine is $50 for short hair) and appointments are usually available week to two weeks out, depending on availability. Plus, Bethany is great at tweaking my Rihanna inspired cut, especially when I felt I was starting to get a Kate Gosselin vibe. They carry an ecletic and smaller range of products that aren't likely to be found elsewhere. They have early am and evening appointments Tuesday through Saturday. Me and My Hair. In High School.

Back in the day, Vitapointe made my permed tresses look smooth and glossy. It stopped my hair from getting too frizzy and made my ringlets shine. However, things are different now. I'm all grown up and have a new magical hair elixir that does the same thing as Vitapointe, but without leaving behind that greasy feeling. It's nothing new, but it does work wonders.



I'm talking about Frederic Fekkai's Glossing Cream. I first discovered this years ago, when I actually won something from Allue magazine. If you haven't tried it, this cream will do amazing things for your hair and I now carry it with me at all times. It calms dry, tired or frizzy hair instantly. Plus it adds amazing shine. It's not as heavy as my old friend, Vitapointe, but I will warn that those with thin hair should use Fekkai sparingly. You only need a tiny amount and it was last for a long time. If you have yet to try this gem, pick it up.

ps- I don't look like that anymore. In fact, one of my closest friends from school once didn't believe that I was me. True story.

Loreal Color Vive Nutri Gloss Conditioner

I firmly believe that Loreal Color Vive Nutri Gloss Conditioner, along with my EverPure Shampoo, are the one-two punch that are making my over-processed, thirsty, red tresses sing. This rich conditioner claims to have a "dual UV filter that keeps hair color truer, longer." While I am super skeptical about any product that claims to do anything after you wash it off/out, something in this conditioner is making my locks gleam like a dazzle glass. If I wasn't so happy with my EverPure (which I intended to hate), I would try the shampoo that goes with this conditioner. But, for me, for the moment, I seem to have found hair nirvana.

I love it. I bought it. You'll love it.

HairQuest: Fekkai Nonchalant Piecing and Forming Wax Hair

I am on a quest for the perfect hair accoutrement to help my short, piece-y hair get some texture. However, my quest has been long and hard. Trying at times and jubilant at others, this ongoing search for the perfect product continues. I have enemies on this quest- mainly the thickness of my hair, the porousness of my strands and a nasty cowlick that needs a serious attitude adjustment.

So with gift card in hand, I opted to try Fekkai Nonchalant Piecing and Forming Wax Hair. It smelled nice, seemed slightly thicker and less likely to be devoured by my hair in minutes. It helped add some gloss to my tresses, without being overly greasy. It did add a little texture, but didn't have the strength to make it through the day.

Yet I still kind of like it. Perhaps because it isn't really thick like Aquage or Twisted Taffy, the two heavy hitters always in my arsenal, and it adds a nice gloss. You can still run your fingers through it and add to it if you needed to switch up to a more dramatic look at night, without feeling like you need to wash it first.

I bought this item. It's ok. If you have thinner hair, hair that also needs shine and is porous, this might be ok for you.
