How I Got Good Hair Despite Bad Humidity

Today is the first day of it being really gross outside in Baltimore. It's only in the mid 80s, which doesn't sound too bad. But then imagine the (nasty) Inner Harbor water getting sucked up into the air and distributed on your hair and skin. I know humidity doesn't quite work that way, but it feels that way. Thick. Gross. Chunky. It's not a sexy kind of humidity, like on True Blood. Not at all.

This kind of weather (what I have to look forward to for the next three and a half months) makes continuing to air dry my hair even harder. Today happens to be a particularly good hair day, despite the disgusting humidity. Here is what worked well for me today.

I washed my hair with Herbal Essences Color Me Happy. I conditioned it with LATHER's Avocado and Mint Hair Repair. I then applied some Bamboo Smooth Kendi Dry Oil Mist by Alterna to my damp hair. Next, I added some CHI Organics Olive Oil Glaze.

(Barry Zuckercorn and I at Bob Loblaw Law Blog Launch Party* a few years ago.)

Then I didn't touch my hair again for about four hours. Seriously. In the immortal words of Barry Zuckercorn, Bob Loblaw and Michael Bluth, NO TOUCHING! Clearly, this is the key. The Olive Oil Glaze leaves hair feeling a touch crunchy when it is dry. Once your hair is totally dry, gently work the crunchiness out of it.

I was left with wavy hair that wasn't frizzy, but felt manageable and looked pretty good. It's not magazine perfect. But it's so much better than the usual air dry hair I am left with that just goes sideways. I still have feather extensions, which blended in beautifully with my natural hair. I liked how the natural wave came out in my hair, despite me not scrunching or touching.

*Totally fabricated event. Actual event was a fund raiser for a senior center. Whatever. I like my imagination better.

You Need This Now: LATHER: Bamboo Lemongrass Foaming Body Scrub

LATHER is one of my new favorite lines that I just can't get enough of. I mentioned earlier that I love their Avocado and Mint Hair Repair; I get the same results from LATHER that I get from the Moroccan Oil Intensive Mask. But the LATHER is only $16.

I also mentioned in that post that I am in love with one of their scrubs. My favorite, the Bamboo Lemongrass Foaming Body Scrub, looks like crushed Oreos, smells like amazing lemons and leaves your skin feeling smooth and amazing. The only way I could love this more is if it cleaned the house. It's that amazing.

Here are my Top Ten reasons you should pick this up:

    1.  It scrubs the yah-yahs out of your skin, leaving it unbelievably smooth.
    2.  It foams slightly, helping to whisk away dead skin so it rinses clean.
    3.  It dissolves over time in the shower, so your tub or stall isn't left grainy.
    4.  Your shower is also not left slippery, because it rinses away beautifully.
    5.  It smells of lemongrass, which is one of my top three favorite scents in the world.
    6.  It doesn't smell like Pledge, which is what usually happens when things smell like lemons.
    7.  It's paraben- and sulfate-free...
    8.  Which means it's also environmentally friendly.
    9.  It's cruelty-free.
    10. It's an amazing way to wake up tired skin in the morning.

Pick it up from LATHER for $38. As if my opinion wasn't enough, Real Simple magazine loves it too!

LATHER Avocado and Mint Hair Repair Will Change Your Hair

I just tried this for the first time and I am shocked. LATHER's Avocado and Mint Hair Repair is amazing. It's a very thick conditioner/paste that melts into hair with the warmth of the shower. According to LATHER, here is why it's great:

Avocado oil increases moisture retention and improves manageability, while peppermint and tea tree oils tone and stimulate the scalp, leaving hair and scalp feeling light and refreshed. Emollient shea butter, macadamia seed oil and jojoba oil help to lock moisture into hair and lubricate the scalp. Paraben-free.

(It's a thick, rich paste. Not a runny, thin conditioner.)

According to me, it's great because it allowed my hair to air dry without turning into a gigantic frizzy hot mess, with only a little help from a blow dryer. My hair dried quickly, with no sign of frazzled ends, despite the humidity. I barely needed to use a flat iron to smooth out my hair - it was almost perfect with just a blow dryer, which never happens. My hair felt smooth, soft and had movement it doesn't usually have. I'm in love with this treatment!

When I review products, I often try not to read too much about them or look up the price point so I can just evaluate the products on their merit. I fully expected this product to be one of the ones that I love when it's sent to me, but can never afford to re-purchase. But the Avocado and Mint Hair Repair is only $16.00! Sweet action!

(Is it crushed oreos or bamboo bits mixed with lemongrass?)

I have several other LATHER products to tell you about, including one that looks like crushed oreos, smells like lemongrass and exfoliates the bejeezus out of your skin, leaving it smooth and soft. It's divine.

LATHER is organic, cruelty-free and are super nice people. Check them out online here or at their stores in Pasadena, Scottsdale or Atlanta. You are going to love the Avocado and Mint Hair Repair!

LATHER is cruelty free and sent me this product for review.
