Cruelty Free Favorites!

As the editor-in-chief of a cruelty-free beauty blog, people often ask me
which products are the best. Of course, that depends on your skin type,
hair type and personal preferences. And, it's amazing how one product will
FAIL for me and then someone else I know will LOVE it!
That being said, I would like to share with you a few of my favorite
cruelty-free products. I hope you'll love them as much as I do.

    1. Alba Pineapple Enzyme Facial Cleanser - This is the
best cleanser! For reference, I have sensitive, combination skin with
frequent breakouts. A good friend recommended this to me - she has
extremely sensitive skin (more sensitive than mine) and she also loves
Alba's facial cleanser. It has enzymes to remove dead skin and dirt, but
it doesn't dry out your skin at all. It makes your skin feel super soft
without leaving any residue! You can buy it in drugstores - a definite
    must-try!

    2. L'uvalla Balancing Day/Night Cream is a fairly thick cream that manages to go
on smooth and leave NO greasy residue! It’s perfect for my combination
skin. It has essential oils (lotus flower, thyme, rosemary, clove, etc.)
to treat acne and natural oils (such as argan oil and hazel seed oil) to
    nourish skin and heal acne.

    3. Dr. Hauschka’s Lip Care Stick – jojoba oil, shea
butter, almond oil, carrot extract and other natural ingredients combine
to make this super luxe, non-sticky lip balm that gives you protection
without causing dependency (like lip balms that contain drying ingredients
    can do).

    4. bareMinerals Matte mineral foundation gives me a
shine-free finish (which lasts almost all day on my shiny areas),
minimizes my pores, evens out my skin tone and protects my skin from sun
damage (SPF 15). It is designed to be worn alone, but I usually layer
over liquid foundation for more coverage.

    5. Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion is a cult favorite
for a reason. Put it on your eyelids, let dry and then apply your favorite
eyeshadow (M.A.C. is my fave). The primer creates a smooth base, makes the
colors pop and most importantly, keeps your eyeshadow from creasing! It
stay on all day - really! The only possible drawback is that you have less
opportunity to blend because the eyeshadow stays where you put it. So,
just make sure you stay in the lines!

New Spring Product Picks

by guest blogger, Anne Houseman of Beauty Xpose'

It's about this time every year that I get stuck in the ultimate beauty rut. It's not quite spring, and it's not exactly winter, and my skin decides to go haywire alongside the schizophrenic weather while managing to lose any signs of radiance. Luckily, over the past few weeks, I've been introduced to some fantastic new products that are helping avoid those nasty "bad face days" and actually have me looking forward to glancing in the mirror without shrieking (okay, that's an overstatement, but you know what I'm talking about). These are my top three picks for new spring products.

    1. Dr.Hauschka Summer Impressions Bronzing Fluid

Bronze away a pasty pallor the safe and natural way with the new Dr.Hauschka Bronzing Fluid, available May 1. As the highlight of the new Dr.Hauschka limited-edition Summer Impressions collection, the Bronzing Fluid comes in two shimmering, translucent colors, 01 (beige) and 02 (bronze) to give a subtle, warm glow to any skin hue. Just a little bit of this bronzer goes a long way, and you can also mix it with your favorite moisturizer, though you don’t really need to since it’s made with antioxidant rich pomegranate extract and nourishing oils of coconut, shea butter and macadamia. The price tag of $36.95 is well worth the value; after all, can you really put a price tag on all the compliments you’ll get for your newly-glowing skin?

    2. Estee Lauder Resilience Lift Extreme Foundation

Give your face a “lift” with Estee Lauder’s new Resilience Lift Extreme Radiant Lifting Makeup SPF 15 ($36.50). Packed with the latest anti-aging ingredients from the Estee Lauder laboratory, this foundation doubles as a skin care product in disguise, made with mature skin in mind. This smooth operator glides on easily and has a super-silky finish that’s hard to beat given the level of coverage it provides. We found that you can get lighter coverage by spreading just one pump over your entire face (yes, just one small pump spreads out all over!), but if you dab more on trouble spots, it conceals nicely without looking caked on. That’s probably due to the product’s new oil-in-water formulation featuring “advanced time-release hydration technology” and hyaluronic acid. No matter what’s behind this miracle foundation’s secret, we just know it didn’t settle into our fine lines or appear flaky on our dry skin, an all-too-common occurrence. Instead, we just saw radiance.

    3. Shiseido Bio-Performance Super Corrective Serum

If your skin needs a little boost itself, look no further. Shiseido just introduced a skin regenerating serum that’s bound to get your aging skin gleaming in no time — in one day, according to the brand. We tested out the new Shiseido Bio-Performance Super Corrective Serum ($80) ourselves to see if we noticed an immediate difference from the serum’s “Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF),” which purportedly increases production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. Guess what? It works. While it’s not going to remove all your wrinkles, it definitely refines pores, makes your skin feel velvety-smooth and speeds up cell generation, evidenced by the fine dusting of dead skin cells that brushed off after the first use. While a pump-ful is sparse, you can make the serum go further by spreading it on immediately after your toner. So get pumped!
