MAD Minerals Satin Glow Finishing Powder

I am all about the cream finishes lately. That said, a finishing powder is still a must for me. I just like how it pulls my skin together, blending everything flawlessly, so my face looks perfect (as perfect as can be, anyway). It is hard to find a finishing powder that isn't a powder. Believe me, I have been looking. In fact, something is currently back ordered on QVC that is a finishing powder anti-powder. So until it arrives (fingers crossed!) I found this from Mad Minerals.


Imagine taking a fine sheet of satin, or maybe a delicate gossamer, and having it float gently onto your skin, melting into your face, giving you a bit of a glow, without the sparkle. That is what Mad Minerals Satin Glow Finishing Powder does.

Dylan's Candy Bar Body Scrub

My mouth is literally watering at the thought of writing this. I am a sucker for sweets. Specifically cake-like sweets or cookies. If I could live on them, I would, and judging by my waistline, I should cut back now. Since I shouldn't eat birthday cake on a regular basis, this might be the next best thing.

Dylan's Candy Bar Birthday Cake Batter Body Scrub is heavenly. It is slightly moisturizing with a delicious scent that leaves me feeling satisfied. It does a decent job of exfoliating the skin. It honestly kind of feels like you are smearing slightly grainy cake batter on yourself. And while that may sound a little gross, it's not. It's really, really good.

They say that sometimes smelling food that you crave helps to take away the craving. While I am not officially testing it for that purpose, scientists who think that may be on to something. And I am not suggesting that you use this product to curb your appetite, in fact, it's scent may entice you to eat more. Either way, I can't go into the bathroom without smelling it. And I am practically drooling thinking about it. I. Love. It.

Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Balms from Bare Escentuals

This winter, I can't stop seeking out creamy colors. Especially peachy ones. And in this dry, cold, blustery weather, nothing feels better on my lips than Bare Escentuals new Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Balm.

This balm is thick and creamy, but not sticky. It's not going to attract your hair like mad. It is going to settle into the fine lines in your lips and fill them out, making your lips look younger, full and shiny.

While this balm is part of the Buxom line, it doesn't give you the signature minty-plumping feeling (it has no flavor). In all honesty, I am so glad it doesn't. Plumping products on chapped lips is not my favorite thing, especially in the winter. While products in pots are also not my favorite, one place I don't mind them is in a lip balm. There is also a little mirror in the lid, which makes this jumbo pot of balm even more adorable. This sheer balm covers lips, protects them and envelops them in dreamy, plush Buxom comfort. I love this!

New Revlon Perle Eye Shadow

So I have been drooling over this Bobbi Brown eye shadow palette on QVC for more than a week. That is unusual for me. I almost always purchase or forget within a week's time (sometimes, both). However, this palette keeps calling my name. Its complex grays and glitters, mixed with total mattes and a cute brush are almost too much for me. But it's like $60, shipped.

So instead of taking the expensive leap, I went to CVS to check out the new offerings from Revlon. With the coupons on your receipts, the CVS bucks and discounts, I somehow ended up saving $7 and getting $43 back in coupons. Somehow, I think I made money...

Anyway, Revlon has some beautiful new shadows in their Perle collection that remind me of really pretty NARS colors. Dark purples, glistening indigos and disco blacks are all things I need. And they are $4.99 each. So I go for it. I decide to snatch up the medium violet and the dark grayish black, both of which have a little sparkle.

This morning, when I was getting ready, I kept telling myself, "These will be as good as that Bobbi palette. Just look at them. I know they say nouveau in the corner, but they will be really pretty on." They are dark-ish and have a little bit of glitter in them , making them good for a grungy Kara Dioguardi eye. I kept my fingers crossed.

Lies. I want to like these. But they have no color pay off. The black has a smidge more color than the purple, but neither of these are going to give me the Kara D. look I am hoping for. I guess the Bobbi Brown palette is beckoning me to buy it....

Three Custom Color Lipstick: Ssh...It's a Secret!

I love reading magazines - especially Allure and Marie Claire. I love to look at the models in the pages and try to dissect what makeup they are wearing. I promise you that every magazine tutorial on how to do your makeup leaves out the little details. You know, the details that don't really matter. Perhaps it's lining your lower eye rim with a flesh-toned pencil. Or adding a bit of a sculpting blush under the tinted moisturizer. Or maybe it is adding vaseline to your eyelid or lashes to make them really shine. They don't do it to make us crazy. They do it to make the product and the face look good on film and in print. They do the same thing on food shoots for television. Having worked on lots of these shoots personally, I promise you that you don't want to eat the food that is on set, under the camera. You want the dryer, less golden version that hasn't been sprayed with WD-40. But I digress. The point is, magazines and photographers do the same thing - not give you the full scoop.

However, I think I have found one or two of the secret products you may not hear about. I mentioned one the other day. My latest discovery is another lipstick by Three Custom Color Specialists. It's called Whisper and gives your lips a hint of nude-flecked-golden shimmer. It's the color that girls on the beach on television look like they might be wearing, despite the fact they claim it's "just the color of their lips".
Born that way, my tuckus. And I know for a fact that Three Custom Color products have been making their way around the Gossip Girl and Showtime sets. This color also comes in a gloss, which I haven't tried. But it's next on my list and I bet I won't be disappointed.
