Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG switching to the 5.5 litres V8 powerplant

Beginning with this summer, the 6.2 l, naturally-aspirated V8 unit powering the Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG range will be replaced by the new 5.5 l, biturbo V8 engine. This technical change was previously anticipated and required, as the twinturbocharged powerplant is spreading rapidly across the entire lineup of high performance models produced in Affalterbach. Whereas the peak output remains the same, 525 hp for the standard version and 557 hp for the Performance Package variant, there is a significant increase in the maximum torque, which went up to 700 Nm and respectively 800 Nm. Moreover, with the help of the new unit, the E 63 AMG will boast a frugal consumption level of 9.9 litres/100 km compared to 12.6 litres/100 km for the outgoing engine.
