One of the hot trends for evening looks this fall is liquid eye liner and dark, smokey shadows. However, we all know that trying to pile on the smokey shadows and liner can end up as one big mess. Plus, it's easy to look like you are trying to hard. Here is my prescription for a really easy way to do a smokey eye that can work for day or evening.
First, pick up three great baked shadows from LORAC. For a fool-proof eye, I suggest picking up Posh, a natural bone shade, Chic, a great highlighter and Drama, a buildable light gray. (Shown above is Insider, great for an even smokier look) These baked shadows are packed with rich pigment, very blendable and very buildable.
Apply Posh from your lashline to your crease (for beginners, this means on the part of your eyelid that is rounded by your eye). Using a brush the width of your pinky finger, add Drama (or Insider for a very dark look) in the crease. Follow the arch of your actual eye and then connect that line to your lash line, making a sideways "V". Finally, add a little Chic just under the highest part of your brow, to highlight your eyes. You can also add a touch of Chic (or shimmer from the LORAC concealer) right next to your tear duct on the inside corner of your eye.
Next, you need the new LORAC eyeliner, Front of the Line PRO. This is the easiest way to apply a liquid eyeliner ever. The applicator is tiny and applies color evenly every time. Use it in black and line your eyes starting in the corner. Apply a thin line - with very light pressure to use just the tip of the brush - from the inner corner to the beginning of your iris. Increase the pressure you are using slightly to make the line thicker and continue drawing out the outer corner of your eye, flicking your fingers slightly upward at the end to give you a tiny cat eye. You can extend the liner slightly further to enhance the cat eye look. Now use the liner lightly to line the lower lashes; be sure to stay right next to your lash line. After your liner dries, smudge a little Drama eye shadow along your lower lashes as well.
Let your liner dry thoroughly, curl your lashes and add mascara. To complete your look, add a light gloss so the focus is on your eyes. I love Glam Couture Shine for a really light look (shown above in photo). For a little more color, try Couture.
