MDSolarSciences: A Sunscreen You'll Want to Use

I am a huge proponent of sunscreen. I wear it every single day, no matter what. I loathe sunscreens that go on white, feel goopy or thick, leave your face feeling shiny and sticky or make your makeup disappear with lightning speed.

MDSolarSciences Tinted Gel Mineral Screen is a totally different SPF experience. I have no clue how I didn't know about this before, because I am adding it to my arsenal moving forward. I tried the Tinted Gel formula, which is a like a silicone based gel with mineral bits mixed in (think translucent, not for a specific skin tone). It glides on skin and also acts like a primer, making your makeup last and last. The Tinted Gel has an SPF of 30 (high UVA and UVB protection), is paraben- and oxybenzone-free and is safe for acne prone skin or skin that has rosacea. It's even recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation. It's even very waterproof and suitable for those who lead active lifestyles.

This stuff is pretty amazing, so much so, that it is one of the only SPFs that could consider giving Jan Marini's Antioxidant Face Protector a run for its money, in my mind. I like a few other SPF's, but as the one category of product I won't compromise on, this one gets really high marks. If the tint doesn't work for you, try it in the clear formula.

The Mineral Screen 30+ SPF clear formula actually goes on slightly white, but dries almost immediately to clear. It's not a lotion like a regular sunscreen either. It's more similar to the tinted SPF than a traditional SPF. It goes on smoothly, provides a great makeup base and smooths out imperfections. Glowing review aside, if you don't like the feel of silicones or are avoiding silicones in skincare, then this isn't for you. It contains quite a bit of silicone (which sits on top of the skin, and doesn't sink in). If you don't mind silicones, then you should give it a try.

    UPDATE! 6/16/2011:
MDSolarSciences sunscreens actually exceeded the FDA 2012 regulations more than a year before they were passed – and all mineral formulations received the Seal of Recommendation from The Skin Cancer Foundation!  In addition to delivering broad spectrum of UVA/UVB protection, the comprehensive range of mineral-based and hybrid sunscreens, formulated without harmful chemicals for children (over six months) and adults, are also gentler on the environment – and favorably rated by the Environmental Working Group. And, they feel GREAT on skin! To learn more about skin cancer, melanoma and photo aging, visit www.mdsolarsciences.com.
